\nThe Information Technology Support Specialist – Public Safety – provides technical support for the Lamar County Sheriff’s
\nDepartment, Emergency Communications\/911, and Emergency Management operations. This position is responsible for
\nmaintaining reliable, secure technology systems that support public safety, emergency response, and county operations. The
\nposition requires occasional after-hours support and response to critical technology incidents.<\/p>\n
\nProvide day-to-day technical support to Sheriff\u2019s Department personnel, dispatchers, Emergency Management staff, and
\nauthorized county users and devices:
\n\u2022 Computers, mobile devices, printers, and related equipment.
\n\u2022 Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot hardware, software, and network resources.
\n\u2022 Support public safety applications including dispatch, records management, emergency notification, and related
\nsystems.
\n\u2022 Assist with patrol vehicle technology, surveillance systems, access control, digital evidence, and other specialized
\npublic safety technologies.
\n\u2022 Maintain networks, servers, cloud services, firewalls, VPNs, and related infrastructure.
\n\u2022 Manage user accounts, permissions, email access, and multifactor authentication.
\n\u2022 Monitor system performance, perform updates, maintain backups, and assist with disaster recovery planning.
\n\u2022 Protect sensitive and criminal justice information in accordance with applicable security requirements.<\/p>\n
\n\u2022 Respond to technology outages and service disruptions affecting public safety operations.
\n\u2022 Participate in on-call rotations and provide after-hours support when required.
\n\u2022 Assist with technology planning, budgeting, purchasing, inventory management, and vendor coordination.
\n\u2022 Maintain technical documentation and records.
\n\u2022 Perform other related duties as assigned.<\/p>\n
\n\u2022 Associate degree in Information Technology or a related field, or equivalent education and experience.
\n\u2022 Two (2) years of experience supporting computers, networks, or information systems.
\n\u2022 Knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Microsoft 365, computer hardware, networking, and cybersecurity best practices.
\n\u2022 Strong troubleshooting, organizational, and communication skills.
\n\u2022 Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
\n\u2022 Ability to pass required background checks and maintain access to criminal justice information systems.
\n\u2022 Ability to work outside normal business hours and respond to emergencies when required.<\/p>\n
\n\u2022 Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
\n\u2022 Experience supporting law enforcement, 911, emergency management, or other public safety organizations.
\n\u2022 Experience with public safety software, Microsoft server technologies, cloud services, and network security.
\n\u2022 Relevant industry certifications such as CompTIA, Microsoft, or Cisco.<\/p>\n
\n\u2022 Strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
\n\u2022 Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
\n\u2022 Ability to work effectively under pressure and during emergency situations.
\n\u2022 Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
\n\u2022 Ability to work independently and as part of a team.<\/p>\n
\nWork is performed in offices, public safety facilities, equipment rooms, and field locations. Duties may require lifting
\nequipment, travel within the county, on-call responsibilities, and response during emergencies or severe weather events.<\/p>\n
\nEmployment is contingent upon successful completion of required background investigations and security screenings. This
\nposition may be designated as essential personnel and may be required to work during emergencies or county closures.<\/p>\n
