JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Mechanic Assistant
DEPARTMENT: Road Department/Central Maintenance
REPORTS TO: Central Maintenance Supervisor
STATUS: Full-Time, Non-Exempt
SUMMARY: The Mechanic Assistant is responsible for assisting the Mechanic in the inspection, maintenance, and repair of Lamar County’s fleet of vehicles and equipment, along with other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with the maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the area and tools.
- Assist Mechanic(s) in daily inspection, maintenance, and repair of vehicles and equipment.
- Comply with all county safety policies and procedures, including the proper use of PPE.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have a valid MS Driver’s License.
- Must be physically able to perform these duties.
- Must be able to work Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Basis English skills;
- Ability to work independently or in a team environment.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
- Familiarity with basic tools, and shop safety.
