On November 19th, 2009 Lamar County Board of Supervisors historically voted to adopt the Lamar County Zoning Ordinance. The effective date of the enacting of the Ordinance was set to be January 1st, 2010.
Lamar County Board of Supervisors under authorization from the Mississippi State Legislature House Bill 1661 enabled Lamar County to adopt zoning for portions of the unincorporated County. Therefore Lamar County adopted on November 19th, 2009 an Ordinance and enacted such an Ordinance January 1st, 2010.

Process & Procedures
If the parcel is located within the zoned area the process that you must take may very some depending on what type of use you would like to attempt on the parcel. Lamar County Planning Department has designed application forms & worksheets to aid in the process of applying for any particular use.

Planning Commission
The Planning Commission for Lamar County consists of a five (5) member board and one (1) alternate of County citizens which were appointed by the Board of Supervisors which meet on the second Tuesday of every month at 2:00pm in the Lamar County Chancery Court House Board of Supervisors Chambers. The Commission will be hearing petitions of all matters related to the land use within the zoned area of the County. This will consist of rezoning, variances, conditional use permits, violation enforcement, and other various petitions. The determination of the Commission will then got he Board of Supervisors for consideration and final decision. The Commission’s web-page is linked below.
