Lamar County Planning Commission is an appointed body of citizens of Lamar County representing all parts of the County which are included within the zoned area. The Planning Commission is tasked with reviewing and making recommendations to the Board of Supervisors for proposed projects within the zoned area. The actions of the Planning Commission are strictly a review and recommendation body of the County Administration which allows for the opportunity for more public interaction, as well a way to have a more site specific focused discussion on the impacts of developments within the zoned area.
Generally the Commission as of the June 2011 meeting will meet on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 2:00pm in the Chancery Courthouse Board of Supervisors chambers unless otherwise advertised. The commission does not conduct its monthly meeting if there are no agenda items applied for consideration that month. Application deadlines are shown in the calendar below and is general noon Wednesday following the scheduled hearing dates.
The Planning Department will attempt to publish the agenda for the Planning Commission meetings if there is an application made and a meeting scheduled to take place. The agendas will be available by clicking on the calendar events details feature. Meetings not scheduled due to lack of any applications will be stated as well in the details feature of the calendar event.
Planning Commission Application Deadline

All applications must be completed and submitted by the deadline in order to ensure proper advertising and staff review of the petition. Filing a petition after this deadline has past does not guarantee that it will be placed and considered on the next months agenda. An insufficiently completed application may result in the petition not being placed to be heard on the next months agenda.
The deadline is generally the day after a hearing. The deadline is for the next months hearing. Example is an application submitted in March before the deadline should be heard in April, after the deadline in March may not be heard until May.
The Planning Department reserves the ability due to time constraints and other factors to adjust the deadline as needed to accommodate the proper processing for the next hearing.
Applications need to be filed with the Planning Department for Lamar County by noon the day of the deadline. Forms may be obtained by contacting the Planning Department as well. The Planning Department's Contact information can be found on our county webpage under Departments and Planning.
Planning Commission Hearing

Petitions will be heard for consideration before the Planning Commission of Lamar County. Hearings are held on the 2nd Tuesday of every month unless otherwise stated or advertised. Agendas can be viewed by going to the Planning Commission page under the Planning Department.
No direct contact with Commissioners is advised. Any contact necessary should be passed through the Planning Department.
Any questions or comments on the dates, or petitions to be considered should be directed to the Planning Department of Lamar County. Contact information can be found at the bottom of any Planning Department portion of the the webpage.
All submittals must be made by 12:00pm (noon) the day of the deadline. Failure to make the time deadline will result in the petition being placed on the next following agenda hearing date. All submittals found incomplete will be rejected and requested to resubmit for a later hearing date. It is the responsibility of the petitioner to ensure that all submittals are complete. It is suggested that prior to or during submittal that the petitioner ensure with the Planning Department staff as to the completeness of the the submittal.
The policy of Lamar County Planning Department is to require all appropriate fees for submittal to be paid in full prior to the deadline for the hearing agenda to be considered.All fees are nonrefundable once application has been made. All fees are to be payable to “Lamar County”.
